KO BON WESTRIDGE

Similans

Ko Bon is a rocky island half way between the northern end of the Similans Marine Park and Ko Tachai and is mostly visited by dive boats for one particular purpose: manta ray spotting. With a bit of luck, divers not only encounter one but several of these magnificent ocean gliders as the mantas use this particular spot as a cleaning station. The definite downside of this experience, however, is the sheer number of divers hanging out on the same spot disbursed by several dive boats at the same time… 🙁

The reef of the bay north of the ridge is partly ruined – supposedly caused by illegal dynamite fishing in the area many years ago – and has yet to recover. Avoiding the crowds at the ridge, however, this can still be a fulfilling reef dive spotting other types of rays (Marble Rays), Angelfishes and some of the plentiful octopuses.
